This is where I…

Mariam, who is in her second year and studies Pharmacy at the University of Bradford, tells us about her favourite places on and around campus.

Mariam, MPharm (Hons) Pharmacy

Have you applied to the University of Bradford? Or are you looking to apply here? Alongside the academic facilities that the University has to offer, here are some of my personal favourite places to do things during the day!

Study

The university has a library that is open 24-hours, all week long! It’s perfect if you’re an early bird or a night-owl. If you prefer a quiet area, floor one and two offer a silent environment to work in with cosy little desks. Or, if you like working with a group of friends, the library allows you to book rooms with their online booking system.

The library offers a laptop loaning service, so if you ever need to work online in a quiet area you can borrow a laptop for a couple of hours to work on.

The Atrium is also a good place to study if you prefer a more natural environment to work in with some background noise too. It also has a Starbucks, perfect if you need a warm drink to work with!

Socialise

Being a part of the Henna Society means every two weeks I can be creative. They carry out workshops to help you with different styles and patterns. We also have fun pizza and games nights! Being part of a society has also helped me meet new people on other courses and helps you see familiar faces around campus.

Every Wednesday evening, there are female-only self-defence classes. Taking part in this class has not only got me fit, but it also allowed me to build up my reflexes and strength!

The Students’ Union offers a wide range of activities and clubs from sports to volunteering! There is also an opportunity to volunteer and fundraise for charity through different events through RAG.

Reset

The gym is a great way to let off some steam after a long day at university. The University has its very own gym and swimming pool on campus!

The National Science and Media Museum is less than a five-minute walk away from the main campus. It’s a great place to unwind and explore the history behind science and media and best of all- it’s free!

The Broadway shopping centre is a five-minute walk from the main campus here at Bradford, it has lots of the best high-street shops, along with a great food court and plenty of cosy coffee shops to have catch up’s with friends.

Eat and Drink

Want to stay on campus?

The Atrium in Richmond Building has a Starbucks and a canteen which offers great warm food on campus! Student Central has a Costa and it’s shop even sells Krispy Kreme’s! Staying on campus is perfect for grabbing a quick bite if you don’t have a lot of time in between sessions to go far.

Do you have a sweet tooth? Located near to the University is the newly-opened Heavenly Desserts. Treat yourself after a long day of studying, or meet up with friends and enjoy something sweet!

Looking for a day out?

Near Bradford Interchange, there is a bowling alley and a cinema along with different places to eat like Pizza Hut and Nandos! This is the ideal place to hang out with friends on a weekend because there is something for everyone.

The university offers a range of things to do during the day, both academic and social, on and off campus! Finding your way around the university and exploring the city is a great way to find cool places to study, relax or hang out with friends.
