It was a pleasure to join fellow Bradford alumni and staff at a special 50th anniversary gathering in Abuja on Wednesday 20 July 2016.
The programme was held at the Valencia Hotel, Wuse 2 Abuja, and the turnout was quite impressive. Dr Andrew Carruthers, of the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics, welcomed all alumni members and prospective students to the event. There was a presentation on the metamorphosis of the institution through various stages of its history. It was really exciting to see how the ancient British buildings have been transformed in to modern sustainable edifice. Richmond building in particular has become an architectural masterpiece and the world-class student accommodation the GREEN.
Members and prospects that had questions were given ample opportunity to ask. Professor Ngala also responded to some of the questions raised and asked everyone to feel free to contact him at anytime for clarifications. Light Refreshments were served and members were able to network amongst themselves. It was unanimously agreed to kick-start a Bradford Abuja alumni group and organise meetings going forward.
Members were all elated when Mrs Odiachi Joan, the lady in the pink gown sitting in front (5th left), informed the gathering that she graduated in 1981; making her one of the most senior alumni members and earliest Bradford graduates in the group so far.
