Patricia Quinn – Life Long Learning

Patricia Quinn.Organisation Studies – BA Hons (2003)

Currently: e-learning Project Manager.

When I did my degree I was a mature student, with two children and working full time so it was a part time course and very hard work with all my other responsibilities. I chose a local university because of my family commitments and work requirements. My reward was to qualify with a 2:1 degree at the mature age of 40 and have my family present at my graduation ceremony.

I have had a varied and long career path through education and e-learning over the past 20-25 years and worked in all sectors of education including community, higher, further, offender and now finally the private sector at Virtual College. All of it has included working with students and learners who are disadvantaged by technology or who use technology to further their studies and teaching practices. This has been a common thread for me.

I am employed as a project manager at VC and work on a variety of projects for the Innovation Hub. Previously, I worked for the Operations Director and projects varied from LMS development support, content creation, quality assurance, data protection, research and writing briefing papers to my current role which involves new and innovative development work.

My advice to anyone seeking a similar career path is don’t turn down any opportunities that come your way. Salary should not be your only consideration. Continue learning – be a lifelong learner.
