Kate Johnson talks to us about her new piece – Man and Machine – a collaboration between herself and the School of Engineering, Design and Technology at the University.
Her exhibition showcases a life-size figurative sculpture and the machine process undertaken to manufacture it. The artist explores the interplay between us and machines in a world where the divisions between humanity and technology are blurring. She uses engineering technologies to enlarge and carve a life-size sculpture from a 30cm high handmade clay maquette, yielding intriguing results.
Dr Fin Caton-Rose from the School of Engineering, Design and Technology talks about reverse engineering and how students at the University can learn from his experiences with Man and Machine as part of their studies.
