Last week I found myself travelling to London to accompany one of the employers we work with, Norgren IMI, to a very special event. The year before we had nominated one of our student interns for an award at the National Undergraduate Employability Awards and she reached the finals, so this time we thought ‘why not an employer’? So we nominated Norgren IMI for an award in the category of Best New Provider of Work Experience for the high quality placements they have provided on our Summer Experience and Graduate Internship programmes, and we were thrilled when we heard that they too had reached the finals.
In a swanky London venue, we and numerous other nominated employers, universities and students gathered together to find out the overall winners in 15 categories. Plenty of champagne and a fabulous flying buffet made sure the event went with a swing. When it came to our category, and they started to read out the company profile, it became clear that Norgren were not just a finalist but the winner! They (and me) were over the moon!
Bradford has a pretty good record in terms of students finding graduate level jobs on leaving the University, and a good part of this is down to the relationship we have with companies who provide work experience for our students and graduates, so it is great when we get a chance to recognise their contribution.
