Celebrating our Career Ambassadors

Our Career Ambassadors ended the year on a high note as they attended the Student Leadership Awards at Student Central on Tuesday 17 May.

IMG_0773The event was a celebration of many hours of commitment that our volunteer students have put into the programme since they signed up in September. They have been involved in Careers on Location and marketing on campus (occasionally wearing a huge sandwich board with a CV on it) and their help has been invaluable at our three Careers Fairs, helping exhibitors carrying equipment, moving furniture and setting up stands, networking with guests and, most memorably, getting absolutely drenched in the car park during an unseasonal blizzard!

They have attended training and regular meetings where they have given us feedback, shared their experiences and supported each other. They have tirelessly raised the profile of Career Development Services by standing up in lectures doing shout-outs, advertising our workshops, promoting us on their social media pages, and generally getting their friends and fellow students all excited about what our amazing careers service has to offer. Our ambassadors also logged their experiences on their HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Record) which will be used across the University from 2016/17.

The whole team have always acted with smiles on their faces and have helped out staff as necessary without complaint, despite the fact they don’t get paid! They will take with them the experience of working as part of a strong team, which will hopefully give them a key skill to help secure that all important graduate job when the time comes.

Special thanks go to Soumana Tahirou, who won our Career Ambassador of the Year Award, presented on the night by Bill McCarthy (pictured right). Also, further thanks go to Tzesika Chatzia and Aleksandra Słowińska, who were runners-up.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers on the scheme, we would love to have you back next year if you’ll have us!

If you are interested in joining the Career Ambassadors scheme in the next academic year, please send an expression of interest to careers@bradford.ac.uk, or look out for us recruiting during Freshers’ Week.
