I’ve recently had the pleasure of visiting Brunei, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to host events for our international Alumni.
The event at the Empire Hotel and Country Club was attended by twenty graduates along with parents of students currently studying with us in Bradford. It was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of some of our international graduates and provide an update on developments at the University.
Also joining our graduates was the British High Commissioner, HE Mr Rob Fenn and Cecile Dasal, Education Promotion Officer, representatives from the Ministry of Education and the Prime Minister’s Office, along with colleagues from the University of Brunei and Institute of Teknologi.
Graduate Event in Kuala Lumpur
A drinks reception and buffet was held at the Shangri-la Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, 4 November 2009 for 100 graduates and special guests. I was joined by Professor Alastair Wood, Dean of the School of Engineering, Design and Technology and members of his academic staff, the Head of the Student Support Centre, Simon Croll and the Alumni Relations Manager.
The recently produced campus snapshot video was well received by the graduates, many of whom had never the seen the campus post 2000. A buffet dinner followed with further opportunities for networking with peers and guests including Peter Clack, Director of Education for Malaysia and Brunei, British Council, Mr Tan Yew Sing, Group President, INTI Education Group and Professor Dr Lee Fah Onn, President, INTI University College.
A similar event for our Singapore graduates was held at the Carlton Hotel, Singapore on Thursday, 5 November 2009. 85 graduates and 14 guests turned out to join us on a very stormy evening. The drinks reception unfortunately had to be moved inside from the fairy light bedecked garden due to the extreme weather conditions but this didn’t dampen the enthusiasm.
After a short presentation and dinner graduates took the opportunity to reminisce about studying at Bradford with the Deans and members of academic staff from Engineering Design and Technology, Life Sciences and School of Management.
