Kings Science Academy University Visit

On July 11th we welcomed the Year 7 pupils of Kings Science Academy to the University for a day of scientific enquiry. The aims of the day were to improve pupil enthusiasm for STEM subjects, to provide the pupils with the experience of laboratory experiments and to enhance the scientific literacy of the pupils.

The day kicked off with a presentation from guest speaker and science rapper Jon Chase (above). Jon brought his infectiously enthusiastic attitude in abundance and helped the students to create their own science raps based on the theme of the day, chemical reactions.

Elsewhere in the packed itinerary, pupils took part in a chemistry lab which involved two experiments, both of which exemplified different signs of chemical reactions taking place. The school also had the opportunity to take advantage of our extensive supply of Lego Education kits, which the pupils used in groups to make their own racing cars.

Pupils and staff had an enjoyable and enriching day at the university taking part in some newly devised activities. We look to retain a strong working relationship with Jon Chase, who was a huge success, and Kings Science Academy in the future.
