We care deeply about our students. No students, no university. Each and every member of UCU at Bradford is committed to your education. That is why we do not take strike action lightly.
However, we believe that the attack on lecturers’ pensions is a grave threat to Higher Education (HE) as we know it. In order to ensure that students receive the best possible tuition it is essential that we can continue to attract the best possible candidates into academic careers. The pension proposals put forward by the employers’ representatives would mean that a lecturer could be £10,000 worse off per year in retirement. The university is only as strong as its constituent parts. We need to work together to ensure that HE remains a right and not a privilege, and that the HE sector in the UK remains world-class.
