The Paramedic Science degree programme at Bradford is the product of a partnership with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service. The University work closely with the trust to ensure that the course content is closely aligned with and responsive to the needs of the profession.
By the time you graduate, you’ll possess the experience necessary to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and begin your career as a paramedic.
Paid work experience
One of the best things about the Paramedic Science course at Bradford is that it includes a sandwich year in your third year, where you get to do a work placement with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
This is a full-time paid position where you’ll be working on the front line, putting your existing knowledge to the test and building on it as you encounter real medical scenarios.
In addition to the sandwich year, you’ll also benefit from clinical placements with other healthcare providers – you’ll graduate with a wide range of experience that will give you that all important competitive edge in the job market.
You’ll benefit from a high standard of teaching throughout your time on the course. From our knowledgeable academics to ambulance service workers, you’ll be learning from and collaborating with healthcare experts who will support and inspire you.
Plus, the teaching on the course is closely aligned with HCPC standards of proficiency for paramedics, which means you’ll be following industry best practice and graduate with the relevant skills for a career in healthcare.
As a student on the Paramedic Science degree, you’ll enjoy a varied and innovative programme of learning. This includes team-based learning with peers and other healthcare professionals, where you’ll soak up a myriad of knowledge. You’ll engage in simulation learning too, where you’ll practice key medical techniques using state-of-the-art equipment.
During your final year on the course, you’ll benefit from studying some of the Faculty of Health Studies’ CPD modules. These modules will allow you to gain specialist knowledge in various areas of clinical practice.
Wide range of facilities
Practical experience is a key part of undergraduate study at Bradford and this is no different in Paramedic Science. You won’t just be sat in the classroom or lecture theatre; you’ll be putting theory into practise in our extensive range of specialist facilities.
This includes the Wet Lab, Practice Suite and Emergency Care Training Suite. And you’ll have access to some cutting-edge equipment within these facilities too. In fact, in 2019 Sovereign Health Care donated over £35,000 to the University for the purchase of new training equipment which included adult and child resuscitation manikins and monitors.
