Employer Insights: Elaine Teal, Learning Director at Day One Technologies

Following on from last week’s interview with Jordan Colclough, today’s employer insight is from Elaine Teal, Learning Director at Day One Technologies. Based in Batley, the company creates interactive e-learning solutions for a range of clients.

What jobs do you offer for graduates?

We’re offering internships for graduates working in our e-learning development team. We have quite a few Bradford graduates who have progressed from internships to being part of the team, and if you meet our requirements and are happy in the role, then there may be opportunities to continue. We are a growing business and we’re looking for good people.

What are the most important characteristics you look for in a candidate?

More than just technical skills, we’re looking for people with a positive attitude- people who are happy to get stuck in and work as part of team towards the same goal, which is producing high quality work and meeting the customer’s deadlines.

We also value people who are open to new experiences and ideas, plus professionalism.

What advice would you give to graduates at the start of their career?

Don’t be too prescriptive in your choice of job, there are lots of opportunities to develop your skills if you think outside the box and keep an open mind.

Can you tell us something interesting about working at your organisation that you wouldn’t get from looking at the website?

80% of the people who work with us are under 25- it’s an informal environment where you can feel free to put forward ideas. Also, it’s been nice to see that when new people have come in, our staff have been really welcoming and happy to mentor and support them.
